[news] The End of Wolf Parade (for now)

Wolf Parade take indefinitely long hiatus

After just releasing two new tracks from the Expo 86 sessions, you'd think Wolf Parade were gearing up for another tour. Unfortunately, towards the end of their November 26th show in Toronto at Sound Academy, Spencer Krug apparently announced that it would be their last show "for a long time." To confirm the sad news, the Wolf Parade Fansite had this to say:
“It does not come easy for me to post this news. Dan Boeckner has contacted us and stated that Wolf Parade will be taking an ‘indefinite hiatus’.”
So what does this mean for WP fans? Well, I would think that we should expect records from their various other musical projects in the near future. Sunset Rubdown has also been placed on hiatus as well, so in a perfect world, late 2010-early 2011 would witness releases from Moonface (Spencer Krug), Handsome Furs (Dan Boeckner), perhaps Treasure Hunt (Arlen Thompson), and Johnny and the Moon (Dante DeCaro). Though that would be asking for way too much this Christmas.

[video] Treasure Hunt Jam Session

Treasure Hunt perform at Mount Zoomer

Posted over at the Wolf Parade fansite, we now have a great glimpse of the supergroup Treasure Hunt. Consisting of two drummers and two bassist, the instrumental quartet must have played a private show at fellow band member Arlen Thompson's recording studio Mount Zoomer. Sadly, this experimental side-project may have been just a one-time venture. Treasure Hunt will probably record an album to "document the band's existence," but their duties are now being fulfilled by their respective bands. Until then, enjoy these rare videos and patiently wait for record in the near-future.

[video] Treasure Hunt (live @ Zaphod Beeblebrox)

First look at Treasure Hunt

What do you get when you put two drummers and two bassist on the same stage? I'm not sure what I expected either, but watch the video above to catch a glimpse of Treasure Hunt - a newly formed supergroup featuring Arlen Thompson from Wolf Parade, Dustin Hawethorn (ex-Hot Hot Heat), Mike Bigelow (Wintersleep/ex-Holy Fuck), and Loel Campbell (Wintersleep/ex-Holy Fuck). The band played a few shows in September in support of Young Galaxy, and the Wolf Parade fansite was nice enough to share this video with everyone. This particular set took place at Zaphod Beeblebrox in Ottawa on September 9, 2009.

If Treasure Hunt records an EP or LP with this kind of energy, I'm sure it's bound to be awesome.

[news] Arlen Thompson - Treasure Hunt

Arlen's new project

Wolf Parade's members are among the most prolific musicians in the indie music community, for it seems that every time you turn your head, one of them has started yet another band. This time it comes from drummer Arlen Thompson. Thanks to Wolf Parade's unofficial fansite, we now have info on his new supergroup Treasure Hunt. Thompson is joined by ex-Hot Hot Heat member Dustin Hawethorn, and ex-Holy Fuck/Wintersleep members Mike Bigelow and Loel Campbell. For those keeping track, that's two bassists and two drummers - should be very interesting.

The band will be touring this month with Young Galaxy, whose new self-titled album is definitely worth checking out. So far, no music has been released, so the lucky ones who are in the Ontario area will have to report back on their experience.

Young Galaxy w/ special guest Treasure Hunt: tour dates
  • September 9th - Ottawa, Ontario - Zaphods
  • September 10th - Toronto, Ontario - The Drake
  • September 11th - Montreal, Quebec - Il Motore
And for a list of other Wolf Parade-related bands, I figured it be fun to point them all out.
