Well that was fun! Over one full year of Hump Day Power Plays, and we've compiled 53 mixes to date! Since 2012 is officially in the books, I figured I've give a sample of my year-end list for best albums of 2012. I picked a song from some my favorite albums of 2013. Now That's What I Call 2008!

2008 was a fantastic year in music. So fantastic, in fact, that it inspired me to start blogging about the great acts and albums of that time. After years of anonymous music writing on Wikipedia (fighting with editors on which bands were truly "notable" and Wiki-eligible), I decided to take my own shot at promoting my favorite acts, and thus Three Colours was born. Feeling a hint of nostalgia this week, I put together an HDPP with some of my favorite songs from '08. Hard to believe that was nearly 5 years ago!

Phantasmagoric Mix

Happy Wednesday everyone! I had some difficulty naming this week's HDPP, as it seems I may overuse the word "dreamy" to describe a lot of my playlists. How else can you characterize a group of songs that transport the listener to the nonphysical realm of existence in which the physical human body is said to have a counterpart? Perhaps I should use phantasmagoric? Seems to fit the bill.

Stargazer Mix

This week's HDPP features songs that I'd classify somewhere between melodic shoegaze and otherworldly pop - music perfect for observing interplanetary events like the Venus transit. This mix has been on repeat since its conception, and it keeps getting better with each listen. Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I have.

Sean Pecknold: Resident Dream Maker

For those of you who missed the one-day premier of Beach House's music video for "Used To Be" (directed by Sean Pecknold & Co.), P4K is hosting the band's Teen Dream DVD companion, which features videos for each of the album's songs. Sean Pecknold's latest piece

This should be filed under old news that I somehow missed, but Sean Pecknold has created another fabulous stop-motion animation video for Grizzly Bear's "While You Wait for the Others." I just love how Pecknold finds such beauty in the simplest of things, and I respect the patience and discipline involved in stop-motion projects. The song appears on GB's latest album, Veckatimest, which is available at all fine record stores.

And in related news, it appears that Pecknold is currently working on a Beach House video. More news on that to follow. What an awesome job that must be!

Grizzly Beach Bear - "Two Weeks"

Last night on the Late Show with Conan O'Brien, Grizzly Bear performed my favorite song off their latest LP Veckatimest. Aiding the band with her amazingly beautiful pipes, Beach House's Victoria Legrand sang some eerie back-up vocals on this rendition of "Two Weeks".

What is it with female vocalists enhancing Grizzly Bear tracks? I loved when the boys broke out Horn of Plenty's "Service Bell" for Dark Was The Night and hired the help of Feist. Hopefully we'll get to see more tunes with this new collaborative combo of Grizzly Bear/Beach House, perhaps...
